The news in India seems to be more like a Buzzfeed article than what we may consider actual news reporting in the US. Looking online at the top new center in India "The Times of India" it is common to see GIF's, bulleted lists, etc. The reason is because the news tries to push for viewership over actual news. Example of eye-catcher article titles include "Constipated kids: 40% make `dry' runs to loo" and "Taylor Swift kicks off Grammys". In general topics include more pop culture and quirky news instead of politics, etc. In the US articles tend to be a bit more serious and present hot topic issues happening in the country. In that sense no challenge is presented to US supremacy. Like the Bollywood culture in India, news is more about entertainment over anything else. Further, there is not really any global or domestic context given to the Indian people.
I found it interesting to read about the news in a country that wasn't European! A few of the French papers I read were set up sort of like this, with lots of pictures and collage type article postings, but the actual content was more serious news. I think its kind of interesting that the news in India is more just trying to get someone to click link or pick up a paper than actually reporting on issues.
